In addition to the usual
gig announcements
Here's an update
on my composition
portfolio
projects
Corpora {N}
Last year was
unique
and really productive
Three different quartets
commenced a journey
Playing and rating
all of my compositions
in the Jazz lead sheet format
I decided to name them
Corpus X, Y, and Z
since this project is about
a body of work
Although
none of the
groups accomplished
the original intention
of completing the survey
Among the first 4 albums
we found plenty
of
material worth developing
Corpus Y & X quartets
are now each working
towards recording
Each ensemble is playing
a distinct dozen songs
from the albums
Album I: Inaugural Jazz 1987-1989
Album III: Exploring Jazz Tradition 1992-1994
Album IV: Modern Jazz 1990-1996
Most amazing to me
is the journey
Having surveyed and
performed this material
quite a bit
Both in Corpus sessions
as well as part of the
summer Noise Pop gigs
I've been surprised
how much better they
are getting
When we realize
a part of the song
isn't doing its job
Finding a way to
improve it breathes
new life into the fabric
