Update
It's been a few months, so I wanted to provide a
window into what's been going on with
alt.musica
.
Stringification
It was exhilarating to spend most of the year
writing for and recording string quartet.
This included some classical and cues for Film & TV,
but primarily alt.musica's
Afro-Cuban songs.
We premiered some of this material in October as
the alt.musica Clarinet Quintet.
Since then, I resurrected lush string arrangements
of Jazz standards, and wrote rhythm and wind parts.
N
ow, I'm thrilled to now have string quartet as
full part of
alt.musica
Anthony Blea
Michèle Walther
Charith Premawardhana
Gabriel Beistline
And our other inaugural members
Glenda Bates
Alicia Bell
Greg German
Carl Herder
As the group has grown, we've featured
other great artists, like Gaea, Keith and Doug
on our March gig.
Recording
The quality of production at
Flaming Hakama has been improving.
Acoustic treatments, more depth in the mic cabinet,
and some engineering tutoring have helped
the quality of recordings.
We've been working towards recording the repertoire,
often in stages and with different approaches.
Be sure to check out the songs we submitted for
Chamber Music America's New Jazz Works grant:
