Direction
Subsequent to the alt.musica launch in February, 2016,
my focus has been recording music for use in film & TV.
This theme is taken up in this story by Johnathan Farrell:
David Elaine Alt blends classical music with jazz
, a story
motivated by the efforts of Cynthia Tom.
Since I have a gig to announce this week, I figured this would
be a good time to catch up.
I have also been playing with the
Awesome Orchestra
,
Classical
Revolution
and
Bay Area Music Circle
.
SoundCloud Publishing
You can hear the music I've been producing on
my soundcloud channel
.
The channel starts with my catalog of works with classical
instrumentation, including orchestral and chamber music.
I've been posting new tracks recorded at Flaming Hakama as
they have emerged, starting with the
alt.musica
concert in February,
and continuing with songs developed as film & TV cues.
Flaming Hakama Studio
The main improvement to the Flaming Hakama studio this year
was the acquisition and subsequent restoration of a baby grand
piano. Thanks to Kindra Scharich for the
donation
!
This allowed me to record seven songs in the Jazz piano trio format
this summer featuring Grant Levin.
The performance area is raised, larger and has enough headphone
monitoring so we can track to prerecorded parts with larger ensembles.
Orchestration
Since a goal of mine is to compose orchestral film scores,
and in general to write for orchestra, I started by working
with strings again.
I updated quintet arrangements, bringing them from paper parts and
engraving them using the open-source program
Lilypond
.
With the help of
Michèle
Walther, I put together a string section to
record this material, as well as to record new material, as well as
classical and romantic era Clarinet quintets.
I look forward to sharing this music with you as it emerges.
